About One Island

One Island started with a straightforward idea: living on the Isle of Man should feel simpler.

Residents, visitors and businesses rely on a wide range of local information every day, yet much of it sits across separate websites, apps, social media pages and service providers. Checking a bus time means going to one place, while flight and ferry updates sit elsewhere. Local news, events, taxi services and government notices each have their own sources too.

Individually, these services serve a purpose. The frustration comes from having to know where to look, which source to use and whether the information is still current. One Island was created to bring more of this information and these services together in one place.

Why we created One Island

The Isle of Man is a close community, but many of the digital services supporting everyday island life operate separately. People often move between several websites and apps to plan a journey, find out what is happening locally, book transport or check an important update.

We felt there was a better way to organise this. One Island is being built specifically around the Isle of Man, with a focus on making useful local information easier to find and everyday services easier to access.

The idea is not to create another directory or a page full of links. We want One Island to become a useful part of everyday island life, built around the way residents, visitors and local businesses already live, work and travel.

What we are trying to solve

At its core, One Island is about reducing the amount of time and effort people spend looking for information or accessing local services. Instead of expecting people to know which website, app or social page holds what they need, we want to bring more of those services into one place.

We are starting with areas people already interact with regularly, including travel, taxis, news, events and public information. Each part of One Island addresses a different need, while forming part of the same wider service.

Travel

Travel on and off the Isle of Man often involves checking several sources. Bus information, airport updates, flight schedules, ferry sailings and disruption information all sit in different places.

One Island brings bus, flight and ferry information together so people have a clearer view of their journey before setting off. Our aim is to make travel information easier to check and understand, whether someone is travelling across the Island, heading to the airport or planning a trip by sea.

Taxis

Booking a taxi should be straightforward for passengers and practical for local drivers. One Island Taxi is being built specifically around the Isle of Man market, giving passengers a simple digital booking service while giving drivers another way to receive and manage bookings.

Local drivers remain at the centre of the service. One Island provides the technology connecting passengers with drivers and aims to make the booking process simpler for both sides.

News

Local news comes from several publishers and organisations across the Island. Keeping up with everything often means visiting several websites or following numerous social media accounts.

One Island brings local stories together in one place, giving people an easier way to see what is happening across the Isle of Man. The journalism continues to come from the publishers producing it, while One Island gives readers another route into their reporting.

Events

The Isle of Man has a busy events calendar throughout the year, covering sport, music, entertainment, community activities, festivals and local gatherings. Information about those events is often spread across different websites, ticketing platforms and social media pages.

One Island gives residents and visitors a central place to find more of what is happening across the Island. For event organisers, it also provides another way to place their events in front of people looking for something to do.

Government Notices

Government and public notices often contain useful information affecting residents, businesses and local communities. Those updates are not always easy to find unless someone already knows where to look.

One Island brings relevant notices into a single area, making public information easier to access alongside the other local information people already use.

Island Pulse

Island Pulse is designed to give people a clearer view of what is happening across the Isle of Man at any given time. It brings together useful local updates and signals, giving users a quick way to understand activity around the Island.

As the One Island service grows, Island Pulse will grow alongside it. The aim is to create a useful snapshot of island life using information already available through the platform.

Built for the Isle of Man

One Island exists because of the Isle of Man and the way life works here. With a population of around 85,000 people, residents, businesses, transport providers, public services and community organisations are closely connected, even though many of the systems and information sources supporting them remain separate.

We are building One Island around those local needs from the outset. The focus is on creating something useful for people who live here, work here or visit, rather than taking a service designed somewhere else and adapting it for the Island.

Starting with everyday needs

We are beginning with areas people already use regularly, including travel, taxis, news, events and public information. From there, One Island will grow based on how people use the service, where gaps exist and where bringing something into the platform would make everyday life easier.

The longer term aim is to give the Isle of Man one trusted place for more of the information and services people rely on. We do not expect everything to arrive at once. We would rather build each area properly, learn from how people use it and improve the service over time.

Built with local feedback

Feedback will play an important part in how One Island develops. Residents, visitors, businesses, taxi drivers, event organisers and local organisations all see different parts of island life, so their experience will help us understand where the service works well and where it needs improvement.

We want people to tell us what they use, what they find useful and what they would like to see added. One Island is being built for the Isle of Man, so local feedback should play a meaningful role in deciding where it goes next.

Our purpose

One Island has a clear purpose: make everyday island life simpler by bringing useful local information and services into one place.

We are starting with a focused group of services and building from there. The aim is to create something people genuinely use as part of their day, rather than something they download once and forget about.
